Renewable Energy

Bendalls specialise in the manufacture of steel structures, towers, nacelle assemblies and other specialist steel fabrications for the renewable energy industry. We have also designed and manufactured hydraulic assemblies and control systems required for the servicing and maintenance of tidal current turbines.

Bendalls have also been involved in the manufacture of the worlds first grid connected tidal turbine 'Seagen' installed in Strangford Lough near Belfast Northern Ireland.

Bendalls have been involved at the forefront of tidal turbine technology with the manufacture of “Sea Flow” and “Seagen” – the worlds first large scale grid connected tidal turbines.

ow with the capability to produce components for wind and marine current turbines the company’s commitment to the Energy Sector is complete.

Marine Current Turbines are a new development in the Renewable Energy field and consist of sub-surface propulsion powered by water currents giving a consistent, quiet and unobtrusive energy supply.

An exciting development has been Bendalls involvement as a consortium partner in the “Sea Flow” project which is the worlds first large scale tidal turbine. Bendalls assisted with detailed design and completed all fabrication, assembly and in house testing of the machine prior to shipping to site off the north Devon coast near Lynmouth where the machine has been running since 2003 with very encouraging results.

More recently Bendalls have been involved in the manufacture of the top support structure and hydraulic lift mechanism for Marine Current Turbine's "Seagen" 1.5MW tidal turbine which is installed in Strangford Lough near Belfast. "Seagen" is the worlds first large scale grid connected tidal turbine of it's type and has exceeded its performance expectations.
In the Wind Energy sector the company has the capability to manufacture Towers, Baserings and Bedplates as well as assembly and functionality testing of Nacelles.
